An exciting opportunity has arisen to for a Rotational band 6 Occupational therapist within the Orthopaedic Therapy team. The rotation includes the Trauma & Orthopaedic wards at Barnet Hospital and the Elective Orthopaedic Centre at Chase Farm Hospital. We are looking for a dynamic therapist to join our friendly and supportive team, consisting of experienced Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Support Workers.
This post offers a varied role for the successful candidate offering the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills as an Occupational Therapist alongside supporting the OT Team Lead in service improvement tasks. The therapy team is integral to the ward, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to assess and treat patients throughout their hospital stay.
Within the Elective Orthopaedic Therapy service the post will involve working within the newly developed Hip & Knee Arthroplasty Ambulatory pathway, including a vital role within the pre-operative assessment service for this patient group. The post offers a varied caseload of Elective procedures including Spinal, Shoulder and foot and ankle surgeries. In the Trauma & Orthopaedic team at Barnet, you will assist patients to return home safely following traumatic injuries including upper limb, lower limb and spinal fractures. You will provide essential rehabilitation to improve patients' function post-operatively to be able to regain their baseline independence and quality of life.
The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To
* Manage and prioritise your own caseload effectively, by utilising a high level of clinical reasoning, organisational and prioritisation skills, with support from the Team Lead OT.
* Carry out comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments, including complex standardised assessments and risk assessments.
* Plan and carry out individual Occupational Therapy treatment programmes which reflect the patient's needs and goals.
* Evaluate treatment and use reflective practice to improve patient care.
* Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning skills and apply these when considering the use of equipment and adaptations to maximise independence
* Be flexible to fluctuating priorities and enjoy working in a fast paced environment.
* To demonstrate effective and efficient discharge planning skills.
* Apply excellent communication skills with patients, carers and MDT colleagues, including attending daily board rounds, MDT and other meetings.
* Teach, supervise and appraise junior staff and students, whilst being supported by highly skilled and experiences senior staff.
* To have an active role in developing the Orthopaedic service including quality improvement and service development.
This is a permanent, full time (37.5 hour) position. The post holder will also be required to work bank holidays and weekends, in line with the department’s 7-day working policy.
