Finance Manager (1st Move From Practice)
St Albans
We are partnering with a well established, highly profitable SME based in St Albans that is looking to hire a recently qualified ACA / CA from an Audit background into a broad, hands-on Management Accountant role.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who has trained within practice and is now looking to make their first move into industry, gaining real ownership of the numbers and exposure across the full finance function. You’ll move beyond statutory reporting and into the commercial, day-to-day running of the business, working closely with an experienced CFO.
As the business continues to grow, the role offers genuine scope to take on additional responsibility and broaden your skill set across management reporting, analysis, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Take ownership of the month-end close, including preparation of journals and full balance sheet reconciliations.
* Produce accurate monthly management accounts and maintain fixed asset registers, including depreciation, acquisitions, and disposals.
* Prepare monthly reporting packs and financial summaries for senior management.
* Support the CFO with board reporting, investor information, and ad-hoc financial analysis.
* Coordinate payroll inputs with the external payroll provider and review payroll outputs.
* Prepare and submit VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
* Complete daily bank postings and reconciliations, maintaining accurate cash records.
* Review supplier payment runs and assist with short-term cashflow forecasting.
* Prepare audit schedules and support year-end processes, acting as a key point of contact for external auditors.
* Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, controls, and systems as the business scales.
Requirements:
* Recently qualified ACA / CA (Audit-trained)
* Strong technical grounding with a desire to develop commercial and management accounting skills.
* High attention to detail and a structured, methodical approach to work.
* Confident communicator, comfortable working with non-finance stakeholders.
* Self-motivated and able to manage a varied workload in a fast-moving SME environment.
* Experience with Sage 50 (or similar SME accounting software) is advantageous but not essential.
