Rotational Occupational Therapist – Band 6

We are recruiting enthusiastic Band 6 Occupational Therapists to join our dynamic rotational programme. We also welcome applications from current Band 5 Occupational Therapists who are ready to progress into a Band 6 role and further develop their clinical skills.
Job Summary
This position involves participation in a 9‑month rotation through Acute Occupational Therapy, Orthopaedic Therapy and Front Door Therapy services, providing high‑quality rehabilitation and clinical leadership across the hospital.

The Band 6 rotational programme offers valuable and diverse experience across key clinical areas:
* Orthopaedic Therapy – Trauma and Elective
* Acute Occupational Therapy – Medicine and Surgery
* Front Door Therapy – Emergency Care and Admission Avoidance
Each rotation lasts 9 months, providing structured yet varied experience while supporting patient flow and service demand across the hospital site.

Main Duties
* Provide, develop and deliver specialised Occupational Therapy intervention within each service of the rotation.
* Participate in the Band 6 Rotation Scheme (9 months in Acute Occupational Therapy, Orthopaedic Therapy and Front Door Therapy).
* Assess therapy needs of the team, respond to changing demands and coordinate with Team Leaders to fulfil these needs.
* Deliver timely therapeutic interventions to enable patients to maintain independence, identify when further rehabilitation is needed and refer appropriately.
* Provide clinical leadership and specialist advice, including supervision, coaching and education for less experienced occupational therapists, rehabilitation assistants, students, support workers and other team members.
* Manage complex diverse caseloads, including medical, neurological, traumatic brain injury, surgical, orthopaedic, musculoskeletal and psychiatric conditions.
* Work contractual hours over a 7‑day week.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Registered with Health and Care Professions Council
* Evidence of continuing professional development and postgraduate learning relevant to clinical areas (e.g., falls, elderly rehabilitation, frailty, admission avoidance, neurology, equipment use).
Desirable Qualifications
* Evidence of basic management training
* Registered field‑work educator
* Member of a special interest group
* Member of a professional body
* Computer skills qualification
Essential Experience
* Experience in complex discharge planning within the NHS
* Broad clinical experience (e.g., surgical, ED, neurology, medical, orthopaedic, community rapid response, admission avoidance, rehabilitation, community)
* Experience providing a broad range of interventions for a complex caseload
* Working as part of an MDT and joint problem solving
* Application of the Occupational Therapy process and models of practice
* Use of goal setting and outcome measures
* Ability to lead and work as part of a team
* Experience providing supervision for junior staff or assistants
* Lead for student supervision
* Experience in and understanding of clinical governance (e.g., audit, risk management, education)
* Carrying out and receiving appraisal
Desirable Experience
* Experience of splints, braces and slings
* Experience using a range of standardised and non‑standardised assessments
* Involvement in audits
* Involvement in recruitment and retention process
* Participation in service development and implementation of change
* Taking a lead role in project work
* Inter‑disciplinary team working
* Experience of admission avoidance, community rapid response, rehab or critical care
