We are seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The ECU is a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership for financial investigations to ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Lead a dispersed team comprising two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; motivate, develop, and manage performance and delivery.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC); influence at senior levels to align with Environment Agency priorities.
* Support the wider organisation in improving processes and understanding POCA; share lessons learned and advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Contribute to technical documentation changes and provide guidance on enforcement practices.
* Lead and develop the capability of the unit and its individuals, promoting continuous improvement.
Team and Environment
The ECU comprises the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team, including Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts. The unit operates nationally, partnering with enforcement staff and external agencies to tackle serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Experience and Qualifications
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Strong understanding of financial investigations and POCA.
* Experience in law enforcement and understanding of the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload.
* Ability to identify areas for improvement and lead changes to working practices.
* Experience developing and enhancing the capability of a team and individuals within it.
Desirable and Additional Information
* Hybrid working from home and a local office; travel across the country for meetings and operational duties.
* Incident response is a central part of the role; you may be required to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support. Additional payment may apply.
