KTP Associate – Bioremediation Scientist
This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate on a challenging and strategically important project to develop a novel bioremediation agent that can reduce contaminant loads in marine dredging spoil. The Associate will be embedded within the technical and project delivery teams at Recycle It Global Limited’s cutting-edge marine dredge processing facility in Plymouth, Devon, working closely with industry and academic experts at the University of Plymouth (UoP) to develop and embed a saltwater-adapted biological treatment process within RIG’s operations.
This role demands a multidisciplinary approach, problem-solving skills, and adaptability to drive innovation in marine waste management. It will provide handson experience working within the constraints of laboratory testing, designing laboratory experiments for large-scale application, while ensuring regulatory compliance.
You will also be responsible for managing and delivering this 30-month project against the agreed objectives. This will maximise the benefits of the Partnership to RIG and UoP, whilst gaining valuable personal development and industrial experience for the Associate.
A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate to work with Recycle It Global Limited and the University of Plymouth on a ground-breaking project to develop and embed a saltwater-adapted biological treatment process for a cutting-edge marine dredge processing facility.
This collaboration aims to develop a novel saltwater bio-remediation agent capable of decontaminating marine dredged materials. You will be based in Plymouth, Devon.
Key Objectives of this project:
* To develop a novel saltwater-adapted bio-remediation agent capable of effectively breaking down contaminants such as hydrocarbons and heavy metals in marine, dredged materials, requiring innovative scientific approaches.
* To navigate technical, resource, project management and stakeholder engagement complexities.
* To balance data collection across multiple sites, managing logistics for sample processing and analysis.
* To document research findings, contribute to academic publications, and participate in dissemination activities
About the business
Recycle It Global (RIG) is a leading innovator in sustainable waste recycling, specialising in the processing of non-hazardous soils and construction waste into high-quality recycled aggregates.
Operating from three sites across the South West, RIG are focused on significantly reducing the quantity of waste materials destined for landfill and mine waste facilities across the globe by providing a service that allows the Construction, Demolition, Mining and Marine Dredging sectors a sustainable way to dispose of waste, and then processing that waste through state of the art wash plant facilities. More information on RIG can be found at the RIG website .
You will be required to travel to and work at different University sites and/or other business locations that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Please refer to the job description for further information.
