Job Title: Project Finance Analyst Location: Salary: Up to £35,000 depending on skills and experience
Supporting the full project lifecycle — from project setup through to closure, ensuring all financial processes (like cash collection and closing bookings) are done accurately and on time
Managing the finances for a portfolio of projects — from small, short-term initiatives to large, multi-year programmes covering support, development, and production.
Setting financial forecasts quarterly by gathering input from project teams, then tracking performance against them and reporting on variances — explaining why costs or profits are above or below expectations
Helping teams understand their budgets, costs, profitability, and forecasts — while spotting risks and opportunities early
Challenging assumptions constructively to help improve financial performance and guide better decision-making
Producing clear financial reports and analysis to support smart decision-making
Collaborating daily with project managers and regularly with senior leaders, commercial, procurement, and finance teams
Experience or education in Accounting or Finance, or related field
Confident Excel user including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs
Naturally curious and eager to learn — no defense experience needed, but you’re eager to pick things up quickly

We’re looking for a motivated Project Finance Analyst to join our friendly, fast-paced finance team within the Electronic Systems division of BAE Systems. You’ll play a key role in supporting a diverse portfolio of projects — from niche, specialised programs to large-scale initiatives of national and strategic importance, working closely with project managers and teams to ensure projects stay on budget and financially healthy.
You don’t need to be an expert in defense or engineering – what we care about is someone with a good understanding of finance, strong Excel skills, and the confidence to work with different types of people to solve problems, spot opportunities and ensure effective financial control.
