Overview

Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust — Women\'s and Children\'s Directorate. Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Full time - 10 PA\'s. Permanent.

An opportunity has arisen to join our team of enthusiastic, motivated and committed Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, contributing towards enhancing maternal safety within our unit. The post is a new role following approval of expansion of consultant body to provide gynae cover during on call. The successful candidate will have a strong obstetric focus, and should be able to demonstrate experience and interest in fetal medicine, preterm clinic and high risk obstetrics, understand and lead on fetal wellbeing and run CTG teachings. A complementary interest in ambulatory care and HRT would also be of advantage and lend support to the existing consultant body in their provision of both gynaecology and obstetric services.

The post is planned for10 PAs.


Main duties of the job

This Job will provide clinical services across Southeast London as we continue to expand our activity across Kent. We provide outpatient and inpatient care on the Queen Mary\'s Hospital site in Sidcup, and will be expanding antenatal care in to the community as well. The provisional make-up of the post is described below, pending any changes that are agreed with the Clinical Director and the appointee, within 3 months of appointment. The successful candidate must be on the Specialist Register with the GMC or be within six months of obtaining CCT or CESR.

Job responsibilities

The PAs are calculated over a 42 week cycle in which the appointee will do 5.8 hot weeks (Monday Friday 0830 - 1730). These weeks (or portions thereof) can be swapped but leave cannot be taken during them.

* 5.8 hot weeks per 42 week cycle (Monday–Friday 08:30–17:30); weeks or portions may be swapped but leave cannot be taken during hot weeks.
* 1.25 PA (averaged) for the hot weeks.
* 1.75 PA for flexible emergency cover (evenings and weekends).
* 0.25 PA for unpredictable on-call.
* 5.25 PAs for other daytime work (antenatal, MAU, gynaecology operating, caesarean section list, fetal scanning).
* Supporting Professional Activities: 1.5 PAs.

The activity and timing of the SPAs will be discussed and agreed with the Clinical Director within the first 3 months of the start of the post

The on-call supplement will be 3%.

The selected candidate should not take up labour ward on call responsibilities whilst on a different site or whilst doing any private sessions. Similarly you should not take on labour ward on call whilst covering another clinic.


Person Specification


Qualifications and professional training

* Full GMC registration
* MRCOG or equivalent
* CCT or equivalent ( or within 6 months of CCT)
* Advance Labour Ward ATSM or equivalent
* Subspecialist training in Fetal Maternal Medicine or equivalent ATSM in Antenatal Care/ High Risk Pregnancy or equivalent
* ATSM in Labour Ward Lead.
* ATSM in Fetal medicine


Clinical experience and effectiveness

* Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
* Experience of clinical risk management, audit and research.
* Experience in general gynaecological emergencies and a readiness to take part in the obstetric duty rota to start with


Management and administrative experience

* Evidence of management and administrative experience.
* Attendance at management training course.
* Evidence of involvement in Obstetric Governance and Risk Management, and Maternity Transformation Programme


Teaching and training experience

* Wide experience of supervising junior medical staff and teaching and training junior medical staff and midwives/nurses
* Documented evidence of teaching and training courses attended
* Experience in role as educational supervisor
* Simulation training
