LOCATION: London Broadcasting House, London the Light House – Hybrid 2 days a week in the office
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £43,000 - £53,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join the Digital Distribution Live Site team. We are responsible for the provisioning, configuration management and operational running of a number of key public-facing systems supporting many of the best-known BBC offerings.

The role is ideal for someone looking to broaden their experiences of supporting servers at scale, troubleshooting complex issues, and maintaining high-traffic production systems, whilst finding opportunities to introduce new concepts.
Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
 * The automation of system provisioning, OS patching and compliance in a Linux environment.
 * Developing and maintaining configuration management scripts and modules using Ansible and Puppet.
 * Managing deployments at scale for both on-premise and remote sites.
 * The issuance, secure handling and deployment of x509 certificates.
 * Regular collaboration with neighbouring engineering/product groups.
 * Proactive second line support for a range of systems and application stacks, including participation in an on-call rota.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
 * Expertise in operating and troubleshooting Linux systems and related command-line tooling. Proficiency in Bash and one or more other scripting language e.g. Python.
 * Experienced in Linux system provisioning, with proficiency in configuration management tools such as Ansible/Puppet and a solid understanding of deployment practices.
 * Awareness of Site Reliability Engineering principles and a willingness to promote these.
 * Sound working knowledge of httpd, NGINX, HTTPS, PKI, DNS, TCP/IP (v4 and v6) and Git.
 * Preparedness to work in a small team in a high-profile environment with large traffic volumes.
Desired
 * Experience in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
 * Some experience of working with Agile (Scrum/Kanban) methodologies.
 * Experience of Video Streaming technologies.
 * Comfortable working with older legacy services with minimal documentation if needed.
