Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an HCPC registered Principal Clinical / Practitioner Psychologist to join the Living Well Service. The team is co-led by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and a Consultant Therapist. The multidisciplinary team (MDT) includes Clinical Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dietetics, GP and admin staff. The service supports people presenting with Long COVID, other post-viral conditions, complex breathlessness, functional neurological disorder and other persistent physical symptoms.

The Living Well Service is a new innovative team providing opportunities to contribute to service development and shaping how we work with vulnerable groups who might otherwise fall through the gaps in services. We are an award-winning, friendly and supportive team; we are research-active with a passion for co-production with our partners with lived experience.


Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake a range of assessments and interventions/support for patients with complex conditions including, but not limited to: Long COVID, other post-viral conditions, complex breathlessness, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and other persistent physical symptoms. They will support psychological formulation within the MDT and provide direct and indirect support to patients and their families / carers. Supervision of others, delivery of training, leadership and service development will also form an integral part of this role. There will be opportunities to contribute to research and audit.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

We are looking for a Band 8a candidate with appropriate experience or a qualified Practitioner Psychologist on a Band 7 development basis. We are a pan North Wales service and are open to agreeing a base with the successful candidate. An element of remote working may be available once agreed. Your role will include direct clinical work, consultation with MDT colleagues, training and service development, with opportunities for research and audit. Qualifications

Essential criteria

* Good Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Chartered status with the BPS (8a) and HPC registration.
* Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, or equivalent which gives Practitioner Psychologist status with the HCPC.
* HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.

Desirable criteria

* B7 - Advanced training in research design and methodology.
* B8a - Clinical supervision training for Doctoral trainee Clinical Psychologists.
* Training/qualifications in specific therapeutic models applicable to Health Clinical Psychology (e.g., Mindfulness, ACT).
* Record of publications in peer-reviewed or academic/professional journals and/or books.

Knowledge

Essential Criteria

* Doctoral-level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within clinical/health psychology.
* Doctoral-level knowledge of clinical/health psychology theory and practice, including neuropsychological and psychometric assessment and interpretation, psychological therapies and their application.
* Willingness to develop knowledge of legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management in relation to Physical Health Psychology Services.
* Participation with CPD as recommended by BPS & HCPC.
* Has attended taught post-graduate course or pursued supervised self-directed study in the specialist field of Pain Management or other area of clinical psychology.

Desirable criteria

* Record of publications in peer-reviewed or academic/professional journals and/or books.

Experience

Essential criteria

* Willingness to develop additional specialist skills through supervised training or experience in Physical Health Psychology including case presentations, group supervision and short courses post-qualification.
* Willingness to undertake training in supervisory skills.
* Additional appropriate experience as a qualified Clinical/Practitioner Psychologist, including significant post-qualification experience working with people with physical health difficulties or transferable skills.
* Experience of working with service users with adjustment and/or mental health difficulties across the adult lifespan and their families and carers.

Desirable criteria

* Experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups.
* Knowledge and experience of a variety of relevant therapeutic approaches as applied to physical health conditions.
* Significant post-qualification experience in Health Clinical Psychology (e.g., persistent physical symptoms, pain management).
