Child Support Worker / Buddy / (P/T) Location: Cumnock
Hours: 10 Hours per week (initially)
Mon – Fri 3.15pm – 5.15pm + occasional additional hours tbc
ROP: £12.60 per hour
Details
Support Worker / Buddy / Respite Carer (P/T) – required to support a 10-year-old boy with Nonverbal Autism, OCD, Sensory Processing Disorder, and Developmental Delay.
Support will mainly involve school collection each day (Mon to Fri) from 3.15pm to 5.15pm, with additional hours during school holidays (tbc). Support hours are under review and may increase.
The role includes providing support and encouragement for activities, as well as assistance with personal care. His interests include swimming and trampolining. He attends ‘Sen swim’ monthly, and support for this includes changing and safety in the community.
Applicants should be young at heart, physically fit, and able to participate in activities while ensuring his safety. He has no safety awareness or danger recognition and may run off, so constant alertness is required. An understanding of Nonverbal Autism, using Pecs symbols on his iPad for communication, is essential.
Experience in SEN (Special Educational Needs) is essential. Timing prompts should be given to prepare him for activities to reduce anxiety, which can sometimes lead to challenging behaviour. Patience and behaviour management skills are required.
The successful candidate will assist with family outings, considering the feelings of his younger sister. Initially, family will be present to facilitate relationship building. The family also has a friendly dog.
**It is essential that you are a driver with your own car, a current clean driver’s licence, and business insurance. Mileage allowance will be paid for work-related travel.**
Experience / Qualifications Required
* Experience in SEN (Special Educational Needs) is essential
* Experience of Non-Verbal Autism is preferred but not essential
* Must have a full clean driver’s licence, own car, and business insurance
This position is subject to a 6-month probationary period. Successful applicants must provide two references (one of which must be current or most recent employer) and undergo a PVG disclosure at the employer’s cost.
