Job Title : Functional Skills Maths and English Tutor Location : HMP Highpoint Salary : From £30,000 (higher salaries may be considered based on experience) Contract : Permanent Prison-based role requiring full site presence and face-to-face learner engagement. Role Overview: We are recruiting a dedicated Functional Skills Maths and English Tutor to deliver high-quality education within a prison setting. You will work with small groups of learners to develop essential skills in Maths and English, supporting them to achieve qualifications and progress towards their long-term goals. This role involves creating tailored learning plans, delivering engaging lessons from Entry Level 1 to Level 2, and inspiring learners who may have had limited prior education. You will need flexibility, resilience, and a passion for teaching. Key Responsibilities: Learner Support & Teaching Delivery Deliver Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level 1 to Level 2. Identify individual learner needs and create personalised learning plans linked to progression goals. Prepare, deliver, and review comprehensive lesson plans addressing literacy, numeracy, and employability skills. Engage and motivate learners to increase retention and achievement. Provide constructive feedback and adapt curriculum content based on learner feedback. Programme Administration & Compliance Complete all required documentation (registers, enrolment forms, ILPs, reviews, awarding body paperwork) in line with contractual deadlines. Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection standards. Meet contractual KPIs and performance targets. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Work with colleagues to support learner progression towards qualifications and employment. Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives. Essential Criteria: Minimum GCSE Grade 4 (C) or equivalent in Maths and English. Ability to teach Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level 1 to Level 2. Substantial experience in teaching or training. Ability to use diverse teaching methods to engage learners. Strong communication and facilitation skills. Understanding of safeguarding, equal opportunities, health and safety, and data protection. Desirable Criteria: Teaching or assessing qualification (or willingness to work towards). Experience developing curriculum and delivering roll-on, roll-off programmes. Empathy and experience working with disadvantaged groups or in secure environments. Knowledge of OFSTED Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
