Role overview
We are seeking a Principal / Associate Transport Decarbonisation Consultant who can be based out of any of our UK offices. You will be responsible for:
* Advising government (local, regional, national, international) on how to decarbonise transport in line with carbon budgets and net zero
* Collaborating with the Mobility team and other disciplines to identify optimal decarbonisation solutions and their impacts
* Aligning transport decarbonisation with client policy agendas
* Leading complex, innovative projects for high-profile clients, including development of new decarbonisation services and tools
* Supporting staff with technical development and upskilling, including technical leadership and assurance of project deliverables
* Managing development of fee proposals, including coordinating and preparing technical and commercial responses
* Supporting the Transport Net Zero leadership team with continual improvement and business development
* Building a collaborative, carbon-conscious culture across the Mobility team and embedding best practices for transport decarbonisation
Your profile
The successful candidate will have strong technical experience in providing strategic advice in transport assessment and management, with knowledge of transport modelling and carbon assessment methods. The role suits someone with a transport planning, modelling or carbon assessment background, and a passion for mitigating climate change through decarbonising transport. We will support your broader development to align with your career aspirations.
What we will look for you to demonstrate
* Experience in technical leadership roles, scoping and reviewing outputs, with a pragmatic approach to resolving complex issues
* Experience in project management and client-facing work, with the ability to translate complex information into concise, plain-language summaries
* Experience in transport planning, policy, strategy, and major scheme business case development
* Ability to interpret model outputs from strategic modelling and transport assessment
* Understanding of Net Zero principles in a transport context; carbon assessment experience is preferable
* Knowledge of the planning system and development control is desirable but not essential
* Strong analytical skills and ability to innovate beyond traditional methods
* Open to those with environmental or engineering backgrounds who can work with modelling outputs
* Confidence in working in complex cross-discipline project teams and upskilling staff on decarbonisation best practice
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* A deep interest in delivering Net Zero

About the team and opportunity
Our Transport Net Zero team consists of carbon specialists within the wider Mobility Discipline. The team delivers decarbonisation services including carbon assessment for transport infrastructure, informing strategies, developing carbon management policies for local transport authorities, and contributing to government guidance and industry best practice.
