Overview
Must hold GCSE C/4 or above in English and Mathematics. Apprenticeship level - Level 3. Expected duration 18 months. Working week Monday to Friday between the hours of 7.30am to 6.00pm. Hours of work will be discussed at interview. Total hours per week: 43.75 (40 if under 18 years old).
Responsibilities
* Childcare and Education: Provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care. Ensure environmental standards, resources and experiences offered to children are of the highest standard. Help with planning for the EYFS and ensure rich and diverse outdoor play experiences are offered. Ensure daily planning is followed and kept up to date. Maintain accurate and effective children’s records. Promote and facilitate partnerships with parents/carers and other family members. Ensure the induction process for new children is effective and adapted to suit the child and parents. Support the development of good practice with regard to special needs and inclusion. Ensure children are kept safe and understand child protection rules. Ensure nutritional needs of children are met and Food Safety Regulations are complied with. Implement key person procedures and build relationships with children and their families. Ensure smooth transitions of children to the next room and involve parents/carers in timing. Encourage time outdoors and current developments in childcare and education policy. Implement activities to close gaps in learning using tracking.
* Health and Safety: Promote shared responsibility for health, safety and cleanliness throughout the nursery. Maintain general cleanliness of the children at all times. Adhere to Health and Safety policies, manage risk and take remedial action immediately. Be aware of emergency and security procedures (fire precautions, security, drop-off and collection). Maintain high standards of hygiene, especially in bedding, nappy changing areas and food surfaces. Report maintenance or cleaning issues promptly to keep the nursery in good condition.
* Operational: Promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers. Support the room leader, manager and staff during regulatory inspections and help implement any recommendations. Be reflective about your own role to support continuous self-improvement.
* Staff: Support assistants and students with day-to-day duties. Ensure new staff have a meaningful induction. Act as a role model, demonstrating good practice and motivating the team. Support recruitment, team building and training. Use time effectively and demonstrate good time management for self and others. Motivate all staff to feel included and responsible, optimising their performance.
* General: Undertake other duties as reasonably requested by line management. Be confident addressing parent concerns and involve room leader/management as needed. Adhere to all company policies and procedures. Be prepared to undertake additional training and qualifications. Attend out-of-hours activities (training, parents’ meetings, open days, parties and planning/staff meetings). Undertake domestic duties within the nursery (e.g., snack preparation, cleaning of equipment). Take part in supervision and appraisals and work towards targets. Work in a team and support the nursery as a whole while developing your own skills.
Qualifications and Skills
* Essential qualifications: GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths or the equivalent.
* Desired skills: Computer literate. Good communication skills. Ability to work on own initiative.
* Personal qualities: Positive attitude, hardworking and determined, organised, punctual, patient and kind.
