Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics - Hip & Knee Surgery
Applications are invited for a full-time substantive Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in Hip & Knee Surgery within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
University Hospital of Wales is the first Major Trauma Centre to launch within Wales. The Major Trauma Centre is part of an inclusive and collaborative South West and Mid Wales Trauma Network spanning six Health Board areas.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £106,000 to £154,760 per annum.
Applicants must provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of employment/training. For those currently or most recently employed as a substantive or locum Consultant for more than 12 months, the name of their Medical Director must also be provided.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as part of a Trauma Team managing general and specialist trauma cases. The trauma on-call duties will be part of a general rota alongside a 6-person Major Trauma Centre Orthopaedic rota. In elective services, the post holder will work with other specialist Hip & Knee surgeons managing referrals locally and from other centres in South Wales.
The appointee should have a sub-specialty interest in Hip & Knee Surgery.
Academic interests in research and teaching will be encouraged, with collaboration expected with Cardiff University's School of Medicine.

Qualifications
* On GMC Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT/CESR (Combined Programme) due within 6 months of interview
* Broad training and experience in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery
* Fellowship experience in Trauma, Hip & Knee Surgery, and Robotic Surgery
* Experience in revision knee arthroplasty and as a Locum Consultant in hip & knee primary procedures
* Effective team and multi-disciplinary working skills
* Strong communication skills
* Formal training in computing skills
Clinical Governance
* Participation in clinical audits and understanding their role in practice improvement
* Engagement with appraisal and revalidation processes
* Research experience with publications
Teaching
* Experience teaching medical students and residents
