The Central Venous Access Team are looking to recruit an experience Registered Nurse to join our current establishment on a fixed term contract to cover Maternity Leave.
As an integral part of Cancer Services at UCLH; the Central Venous Access Team is a nurse-led insertion service for adult and younger patients who are receiving Systematic Anti-Cancer Treatments (SACTs), Apheresis or Supporting Therapies, while under the care of Haematology and Oncology Consultants.
Under the leadership of the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist for Central Lines; the team insert a variety of vascular access devices, including Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs), temporary Central Venous Catheters (CVCs) and Implanted Ports for both inpatients and outpatients.
UCLH as an organisation recognises the value of a healthy work-life balance and is committed to supporting flexible working. Currently most of the team members work compressed hours over four days, however, where possible the service will attempt to accommodate the postholders needs.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work as one of a team of nurse specialists in providing expert and autonomous Central Venous Catheter insertion and follow up for adult and teenage haematology and oncology patients at UCH.
You will provide expert clinical, strategic, and leadership to a well-established team, including the pre-assessment of patients referred for central venous catheter insertion, expert insertion of central venous catheters while working within organisational guidelines, and deliver specialist education and information about central venous catheters for patients, carers, and colleagues.
