What are we looking for?
* Experience: Previous support or mental health-related experience is desirable but not essential. Crisis management experience is an advantage.
* Active Listening: Strong skills in empathetic listening and responding.
* Communication: Clear verbal and written communication, adaptable to different situations.
* Problem-Solving: Ability to assess situations quickly and collaborate on actions or referrals.
* Resilience: Ability to work under pressure and handle emotionally challenging situations, with a focus on self-care.
* Confidentiality: Understanding of data protection and boundaries when handling sensitive information.
* Training: Willingness to complete training on mental health first aid, safeguarding, or crisis intervention.
* Qualities: Compassionate, calm, team-oriented, proactive, and committed to supporting vulnerable communities.
What will you be doing?
V.L.A.D. Outreach CIC provides mental health support and emergency intervention. As a Volunteer Crisis Support Worker, you will offer emotional and practical crisis support using active listening, de-escalation, safety assessments, and referrals. You will engage with individuals in crisis, ensuring confidentiality and accurate record-keeping, while remaining calm and supportive. Ongoing training and an enhanced DBS check are required.
