About the Opportunity
Our client, a dynamic and expanding multi-disciplinary consultancy, is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their growing Building Services team in Manchester. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced engineer to play a pivotal role in delivering innovative, sustainable, and technically excellent designs across a diverse range of projects.
Located close to Manchester’s vibrant Spinningfields district, the office provides a collaborative and inspiring environment. The team works on landmark developments across the UK and internationally — from high-performance commercial and healthcare buildings to cutting-edge residential and retail schemes.
The Role
As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you’ll take the lead on multidisciplinary projects, oversee design quality, and act as a trusted point of contact for clients and stakeholders. You’ll also mentor junior engineers, shape best practices, and help drive innovation within the team.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical design delivery from concept to completion across multiple sectors
* Manage client and design team relationships, ensuring smooth project coordination
* Oversee technical standards, compliance, and quality control
* Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and team leadership
* Support business development and represent the company at industry events
* Contribute to the recruitment and professional growth of engineering talent
About You
* Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
* Strong technical skills using MagiCAD, Relux, Amtech/EOM, AutoCAD, and Revit
* Excellent communicator, confident engaging with clients and design teams
* Chartered Engineer or actively working towards chartership
* Collaborative and proactive approach, with a passion for sustainable design
* Able to influence design outcomes and lead multidisciplinary project teams
