The Vacancy
Do you have a passion for writing?
Are you eager to learn, and enthusiastic about developing?
Do you have an interest in social housing and delivering excellent services?
If so then you may be our next Trainee Bid Writer!
This is an excellent opportunity for a Graduate or someone looking to start a career in bid writing to join NCHA as a Trainee Bid writer.
We complete bids, grant applications and tenders for housing, care and support services for vulnerable adults.
As part of the Business Development Team you will be working in projects across the organisation, liaising with internal and external partners. Very few teams get as round a view as us, and it makes each day so varied and interesting. Whether you’re writing method statements, modelling budgets, or supporting specifications for new housing developments, this is a fantastic role to take your first big step into the world of work.
Please note this is not a sales job!
What will you be doing?
You will work through a structured 12 month Graduate training programme, learning on the job and combining practical experience, professional development and the opportunity to network with peers from our other departments and external agencies.
You will be responsible for writing grant applications and bids while learning on the job so that at the end of your training programme you will have acquired excellent knowledge of the housing and social care sectors on which to build a successful career.
At the end of the graduate training programme, we hope you will want to take the opportunity to apply for one of our full-time permanent positions and developing your ongoing career with us.
Check out the Role Profile attached to find out more about your role and responsibilities.

A Previous Graduate Bid Writer Has Said
“I left university in 2018 not knowing what I wanted to do. I ended up falling back into what I had done previously – hospitality. I gained a place on to a landlord fast-track programme thinking that’s where my future lay, but I soon realised this wasn’t what I wanted to be doing. After a copywriting role, I wanted to find somewhere that would give me a foothold in my career – which is when I applied to be a Graduate Bid Writer at NCHA.
I was lucky enough to be given the role, and started a fully work-from-home role in 2020 during COVID. It was a job I had never done before, in an industry I only had surface level knowledge of. Despite that, my managers at NCHA took the time to develop my skills, offering further responsibilities as time went on. Managers here are always looking at ways to progress your skills and prospects – whether that’s through training, on-the-job learning, or through leadership programmes.
Despite periods of Imposter Syndrome at times, I’ve been made to feel fully at home at NCHA, in Business Development, and in the role. NCHA has a culture of caring, and of teamwork that I have never experienced before, and you can see why so many staff stay for decades (I’ll hopefully be one of those as well).
