South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Logistics Officer (Resilience & Specialist Operations) to support the effective day‑to‑day running of the Resilience & Specialist Operations Department.
This role provides essential logistical support across the Trust’s resilience and specialist operational teams, including HART and SORT, helping to ensure that equipment, vehicles, training resources and operational assets are available, maintained and ready for use at all times.
Working closely with Resilience Managers, Resilience Officers and HART staff, the post holder will contribute to operational readiness, training delivery, exercises and large‑scale events across the SCAS operating area. The role requires flexibility, strong organisational skills and the ability to respond to changing priorities in a fast‑paced operational environment.
Main duties of the job
Provide logistical support to the Resilience & Specialist Operations Department, working closely with Resilience Managers, HART Managers and Officers to plan and prioritise workloads. Ensure the effective delivery of resilience, HART and SORT activities by maintaining, recording and replenishing equipment, consumables and stores. Manage departmental stores and logistics areas, ensuring accurate stock control, stock rotation and safe disposal of expired or surplus items. Order equipment and supplies using Trust systems, liaising with Procurement and internal departments as required.
Prepare training and operational sites in advance of exercises, incidents and training sessions. Carry out routine maintenance and basic fault identification on equipment, arranging repairs and servicing with approved suppliers. Deliver and collect equipment across the SCAS area, responding to short‑notice requests to maintain service continuity. Support the deployment, recovery, set‑up and break‑down of equipment for incidents, exercises, training and large‑scale events. Assist with departmental vehicle management, coordinating with Fleet Services and the Operational Support Desk to ensure vehicles are serviced, stocked and compliant.
Maintain accurate records using Trust ICT systems, provide basic equipment familiarisation to staff, ensure compliance with health and safety, IPC and governance policies, work flexibly across the Trust footprint, and undertake additional duties as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
OVERALL PURPOSE/ROLE SUMMARY:
This role supports the day to day smooth running of the Resilience & Specialist
Operations Department by providing logistical support to the Resilience and
operational teams within the department as well as our HART and SORT staff. The
role encompasses the whole of the SCAS operating area but will be based at
Thatcham (1 Post).
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Post holder will:
1) Work closely with the Resilience Managers, HART Manager and Resilience
Officers to plan and prioritise workload which will usually be communicated to

you via email phone, making maximum use of available resources and
ensuring maximum productivity.
2) Ensure that the Resilience & Specialist Operations Managers and HART
Manager are regularly updated via email and phone in relation to the progress
of your daily duties.
3) Be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders, commercial businesses
and where barriers are identified be persuasive and tactful in dealing with a
variety of situations.
4) Drive any vehicle owned, hired, or on loan to the South Central Ambulance
NHS Trust, for which you are properly licensed, as required.
5) Drive and Operate any vehicle you are required to, in accordance with Trust
Policy (CPP19 – Driving and care of Trust Vehicles)
6) Identify faults and problem solve with the departmental equipment (e.g.
Detection Equipment) and report the findings to the relevant officers.
7) Ensure the departmental stores within the Central Logistics Unit and at any
other site used by the Resilience and Hazardous Area Response Team (e.g.
HART base, Thatcham) are clean, tidy and that accurate stock levels are
recorded and maintained. Ensure stock is rotated and removed /disposed of
where required.
8) In conjunction with the administration team, ensure that each site that
conducts training has sufficient supplies and equipment to enable them to do
so prior to the commencement of the training.
9) Order supplies and equipment as requested or when required utilising Trust
systems and in conjunction with other departments (including medical gases)
10)Maintain training and operational equipment in a serviceable condition
undertaking routine maintenance of clinical devices as outlined in
manufacturer’s instructions.
11)Arrange for repair and maintenance of equipment unable to be undertaken
within the trust with agreed suppliers and manufacturers.
12)Assist where required in the collection and making ready of any equipment
which may have been used at Incidents or Exercises which may on occasions
result in the indirect exposure to a distressing situation.
13)Deliver supplies and equipment (which may be heavy and bulky) to locations
or individual schemes across the operating area, ensuring that productivity is
maximised with each journey undertaken to reduce excessive travelling
14)Respond to short notice requests for broken / missing / damaged equipment
(including Specialist and operational equipment) in order to ensure
uninterrupted service delivery ensuring accurate and timely information flow
between the team members
15)Ensure your vehicle is kept appropriately stocked with equipment and
consumables to allow for a rapid response to any issues outlines above
16)Liaise with South Central Fleet Services, Operational Support Desk and the
Resilience and Specialist Operations Managers or the HART Manager to
keep an accurate database of scheme and departmental vehicles (including
Incident Support Vehicles and Mass Casualty Vehicles), overseeing their
being sent for servicing / MOTs etc. in a timely fashion and assisting with the
expedition of this when required. Arrange for temporary vehicles where
possible to assist with service delivery.
17)Provide regular reports to the Resilience and Specialist Operations Managers
around the status of vehicles under the control of the department identifying
any issues and working to resolve them in a timely fashion.
18) Assist the Resilience Officers with the set up and break down of Exercises
where required (e.g. assisting with Scene and tent setup or transportation of
vehicles to the site).
19)Provide familiarisation training as prescribed by the department to members
of staff when delivering / maintaining Resilience equipment or in the course of
your duties.
20)Undertake any personal development training deemed necessary by the
Resilience & Specialist Operations managers.
21)Assist the Resilience Officers in the setup / break down of induction or other
training courses
22)Support the Resilience and Specialist Operations managers in the logistical
planning of large events (such as CPD days, local conferences etc.) which
may include liaison with external partners or organisations.
23)Take responsibility for the SORT Vehicles ensuring maximum availability,
working with SCFS and OSD to ensure it is regularly maintained and stocked
with appropriate clinical and promotional items as required.
24)Assist other areas of the Trust as directed by the Resilience & Specialist
Operations managers when required.
Other Specific Expectations of the Role:
1) Work seamlessly with other members of staff across the department to ensure
a joined up approach to the working within the department.
2) Demonstrate a flexible and committed attitude to the nature of the work which
may involve unsociable hours and possessing effective time management
skills to deal with unpredictable events / incidents which may will involve
travelling long distances and to possess an autonomous ability to react to
immediate situations and provide the appropriate solution or advice.
3) Plan your own time effectively making use of all available resources (including
colleagues) where capacity allows maximising performance and productivity
4) Utilise ICT programmes to fulfil the role including: Microsoft Office (Outlook,
Excel, Word) Proactis and Proclus system (training will be provided).
5) Undertake audits in relation to equipment both owned by the department and
in use in the community which would include ensuring that routine testing and
maintenance occurs.
