Cardiff Steiner School is seeking a part-time Hard Craft Teacher to join our vibrant Kindergarten to Class 12 community.
You will coordinate and teach the Hard Crafts programme for Middle and Upper School students (ages 11 to 19), which may include activities such as woodworking, blacksmithing/metalwork, sculpture, stone carving, basketwork, and ceramics.
This role involves working with the Steiner Waldorf curriculum and the Certificate of Steiner Education (NZCSE), an assessment-only qualification equivalent to A Levels, recognized by UK and international universities. It offers a creative opportunity to engage with young people beyond the constraints of GCSE and A Level curricula and examinations.
About You
You should be an experienced craftsperson with extensive knowledge of Hard Craft. Teaching or workshop experience in Hard Craft education and/or working with young people is essential.
You will have the skills and passion to support students' educational and personal development creatively. A committed, resourceful individual with an interest in Steiner-Waldorf education, you should be willing to develop this further and support the school's ethos.
Our team includes qualified Steiner Teachers who can provide guidance on the Steiner Waldorf curriculum, along with a professional development programme featuring peer mentoring and external training opportunities.
About Us
Located in Wales’ capital, our school offers a full Kindergarten to Class 12 Steiner Waldorf education. Established in 1997, with a Lower School opened in 2012, we expanded to Upper School in 2017, offering the NZCSE, which had its first Class 12 graduates in 2021.
The NZCSE is a pioneering trans-national Steiner secondary qualification, recognized by UCAS and accepted by universities worldwide, comparable to A Levels and the International Baccalaureate. It is the most widely offered Steiner secondary qualification in the UK.
Our diverse teaching team includes specialists in Bothmer, Music, Handwork, Craft, Spanish, and Games, along with dedicated Upper School teachers. We are a small, collaborative community that values staff input and professional growth, offering mentoring, peer observation, and training in NZCSE delivery.
We operate a two-year combined class system, supported by experienced teachers familiar with its pedagogical needs.
As a fully independent, Waldorf UK member school, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. We encourage applications from underrepresented groups, including diverse ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, and religion.
