Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

A highly respected independent co-educational day school in Harrogate is seeking to appoint an accomplished and passionate Teacher of History to join its successful Humanities faculty. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity within a school renowned for academic excellence, outstanding pastoral care and a rich co-curricular offering.

History is a flagship subject within the school, attracting strong uptake at both GCSE and A-Level, with students regularly progressing to leading universities.

-----------------------------------

The Role

You will teach History across KS3–KS5, delivering a challenging and intellectually stimulating curriculum that encourages independent thought, debate and scholarly writing.

At Key Stage 3, students are introduced to a broad and ambitious curriculum that develops strong chronological understanding alongside key historical concepts such as causation, significance and interpretation. Teaching places a strong emphasis on discussion, source evaluation and academic literacy.

At GCSE and A-Level, students benefit from small class sizes, enabling close academic support and high-level dialogue. Teaching focuses on depth of knowledge, historiography and confident extended writing, with excellent examination outcomes year on year.

You will be encouraged to contribute your own subject expertise and interests while working within a well-structured, coherent departmental framework.

-----------------------------------

The History Department

The History department is a highly collegial and academically driven team, known for its shared commitment to scholarship and high standards. Schemes of work are carefully designed and regularly reviewed, ensuring clarity and progression across year groups.

Departmental collaboration is a strength, with regular subject meetings focused on pedagogy, curriculum development and enrichment rather than administration. Staff work closely together to support students preparing for university-level study.

Enrichment is an integral part of the department’s work and includes:

* Academic lectures and visiting speakers

* Study visits to museums, archives and historical sites

* Essay competitions and extension seminars for senior pupils

-----------------------------------

The School

This independent school combines traditional values with a modern, forward-thinking approach to education. It is known for its warm, inclusive community, excellent behaviour and strong relationships between staff and pupils.

Class sizes are small, allowing teachers to know students well and provide highly personalised academic support. The school places a strong emphasis on character development, leadership and intellectual curiosity.

Leadership is supportive and visible, with a genuine commitment to staff wellbeing and professional development. Teachers are trusted as professionals and given autonomy within a clear and supportive structure.

-----------------------------------

Facilities and Learning Environment

The school is set within attractive grounds and benefits from a blend of historic architecture and modern teaching spaces. Humanities classrooms are well-resourced, and students have access to excellent library and research facilities, particularly valuable for GCSE and A-Level study.

-----------------------------------

Professional Development and Benefits

Staff benefit from:

* A competitive independent-sector salary

* Excellent CPD and support for subject development

* Small class sizes and highly motivated pupils

* Free lunch during term time

* On-site parking and access to school facilities

-----------------------------------

The Ideal Candidate

You will:

* Hold QTS or equivalent

* Have strong academic credentials in History

* Be confident teaching up to A-Level

* Enjoy working with highly motivated students

* Value collaboration, scholarship and professional growth

-----------------------------------

If you are a History Teacher seeking a role in a prestigious independent school that values academic excellence, intellectual curiosity and supportive working relationships, we would be delighted to receive your CV.
