Job Summary
Applications are invited for the post of Director of Nursing - High Secure Services. This is a pivotal role and is a rare and exciting opportunity to provide the overall clinical leadership of Broadmoor Hospital.
The post holder will ensure that all aspects of nursing and multi-disciplinary care are delivered to high standards, providing the best possible experience and outcomes for service users across the Clinical Service Unit (CSU). They will provide professional leadership, support staff to bring about service transformation and improved patient care, and develop expert nursing practice and clinical leadership locally.
The post holder will contribute to strengthening care pathways and service developments to ensure they are safe, sound, and evidence-based, including leading on PCREF and PSII initiatives.
We seek a versatile, enthusiastic, and experienced professional with proven leadership and clinical skills, focused on ensuring the highest standards of care within the hospital, leading by example, and maintaining visibility.
Main duties of the job
* Ensure all nursing and multi-disciplinary care meet high standards for optimal patient outcomes.
* Contribute to strengthening care pathways and service development, leading initiatives like PCREF and PSII.
* Work with the Service Director and Clinical Director to ensure inpatient environments meet statutory requirements regarding cleanliness, IPC, patient safety, and staffing.
* Oversee systems for local induction, education, training, and professional development of nursing staff, including preceptorship programs.
* Develop and implement a performance management framework for nursing staff with measurable objectives, monitoring progress and issues.
* Collaborate with senior nurse leaders to implement the Nursing Strategy, ensuring high-quality inter-professional working across the CSU.
* Work with the Clinical Director to deliver the Trust and Local Patient Safety Strategy for high secure services, liaising with Safety/Governance teams.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Registered Mental Health Nurse
* Master's Degree or equivalent
* Completed Clinical Supervision Training
* Five years' senior management experience, including change management
* Experience in forensic mental health care
* Sound leadership skills and experience in setting and evaluating care standards
* Experience working with diverse inner-city populations
* Proven report-writing skills at executive level
* Expertise in managing challenging behaviors and staff training in de-escalation techniques
* Ability to inspire across professional boundaries with advanced communication skills
Knowledge
* Understanding of mental health performance targets and governance
* Research, audit, and quality improvement methodologies
* Knowledge of mental health policies, system & learning theories, and change management principles
* Current developments in mental health nursing and policy implications
