Job Title: Principal Structural Engineer

Responsibilities
* Design submarine structures by calculation to ensure they meet the required load cases and safety factors
* Analyse submarine structures through Finite Element Analysis
* Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated system solutions
* Gather evidence to demonstrate compliance of these solutions with safety, function and performance requirements
* Author and review design and analysis reports
* Respond to build issues through collaboration with Operations and Construction Engineering
* Present work to design review panels and key stakeholders
Required qualifications and experience
* Essential: Degree or equivalent experience in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics)
* Analytical structural calculation skills
* Chartered or working towards Chartered status
* Demonstrable Structural Engineering experience
Desirable experience
* Submarine, shipbuilding, aeronautical or civil structural design/analysis experience
* Familiar with Pressure Vessel Codes PD5500/ASME, fatigue analysis code BS 7608, and Structural Design code BS 5950
* Familiar with Naval design standards
* Finite Element Analysis (FEA) knowledge
* Welding/Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) knowledge

The Structural Engineering team
You will work with multi-functional teams across multiple submarine programmes, engaging with industrial partners and liaising with specialists to agree technical solutions that contribute to the success of our programmes.
You will be responsible for a range of submarine structures, from major equipment such as the pressure hull to minor equipment such as seats. This role provides opportunities to learn new skills and acquire specialist knowledge in a unique engineering environment.
