Business Intelligence Developer
Are you passionate about using data to drive better decisions? We’re looking for a skilled Business Intelligence Developer to join our IT & Digital Transformation team. In this specialist role, you’ll design, develop, and maintain the council’s business intelligence systems, creating impactful dashboards, reports, and data models.
You’ll work closely with stakeholders to turn business needs into actionable insights, advise on data strategy, and ensure our BI platforms are accurate, accessible, and well-governed. You’ll also help us stay ahead by evaluating new technologies and supporting our data-driven culture
Main Responsibilities
1. Lead the management, maintenance, and development of the council’s business intelligence infrastructure to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable data operations.
2. Design and deliver interactive dashboards, reports, and data models using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik to support data-driven decision-making.
3. Develop and maintain ETL processes, data pipelines, and data models for reporting and integration, ensuring data quality, consistency, and governance.
4. Collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation to understand business intelligence needs, embed BI into workflows, and translate requirements into actionable insights.
5. Advise on data strategy and best practices, proactively identifying trends and evaluating emerging BI technologies to drive innovation and align with internal policies, including those related to AI and data ethics.
6. Provide training, documentation, and support to users on BI tools and self-service reporting, contributing to a data-driven culture.
7. Support system upgrades, scalability planning and the evaluation of new BI technologies to ensure the long-term reliability and advancement of BI infrastructure.
What we’re looking for:
8. Relevant qualification in IT or a business-related subject, or proven experience as a Business Intelligence Developer.
9. Advanced skills in BI tools (such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik) and strong understanding of data visualisation best practices.
10. Experience developing and maintaining BI dashboards, reports, ETL processes, and data models using SQL, R or Python.
11. Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, translating business requirements into effective BI solutions and presenting insights to non-technical audiences.
12. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and governance.
