REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
Regulations
(Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5
1. Exercise of general professional duties
A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out professional duties as required, including:
* if employed as a teacher in a school under the reasonable direction of the principal;
* if employed by a board without a specific school assignment, under the reasonable direction of the board and the principal of any school where required to work.
1. Exercise of particular duties
Teachers shall perform duties reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including:
* performing in accordance with directions given;
* performing duties as assigned in relation to courses, lessons, assessments, and reports;
Key Responsibilities
1. Planning
* Planning and preparing courses and lessons;
* Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work;
* Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupils' development and progress.
1. General
* Promoting pupils' progress and well-being;
* Providing advice and guidance on educational, social, and career matters;
* Making records and reports on pupils' personal and social needs;
* Communicating with parents and external bodies;
* Participating in meetings related to these areas.
Assessment/Reporting
Providing assessments, reports, and references for pupils, ensuring confidentiality.
Staff Development
Participating in staff development schemes, reviewing teaching methods, and engaging in professional training.
Discipline/Health & Safety
Maintaining order and discipline, safeguarding health and safety, and participating in relevant meetings.
Public Examinations
Preparing pupils for public exams, assessing, recording, and supervising during exams.
Management & Administration
Contributing to staff recruitment, managing work of other teachers, and participating in curriculum and school management activities.
Work Schedule
Full-time teachers shall be available for 195 days per year, with specific hours and duties as specified, including breaks and cover arrangements.
Additional Duties
Including supervising absent teachers' pupils, supporting school activities, and adhering to policies.

Section 1 - Essential Criteria
* Qualifications: Recognized teaching qualification for Northern Ireland.
* Experience: At least 1 year teaching Key Stage 1, supporting diverse learners, using digital media.
* Registration: Registered with GTCNI before starting.
Section 2 - Additional Essential Criteria
* Knowledge: NI Curriculum, Safeguarding, SEND, assessment methods, IT systems.
* Skills: Effective teaching, classroom management, inclusivity, teamwork, problem-solving.
* Values: Alignment with school ethos and values.
Section 3 - Desirable Criteria
* Experience in P4, job sharing, curriculum leadership, extracurricular activities.
