Overview
Specialist Optometrist - (must have paediatric experience). Permanent role at George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton. 22.5 hours per week (full-time will be considered). Salary: £55,690 - £62,682 per annum, pro rata. Closing Date: 31 August 2025. Interview Date: TBC. This post may close early due to high numbers of applications; apply promptly.

Responsibilities
* Provide autonomous, highly skilled and specialised HES optometry services to George Eliot Hospital (GEH).
* Take clinical responsibility for Specialist Paediatric and Adult Refraction Clinics; work closely with Ophthalmology Management to deliver high standards of patient care.
* Undertake the full range of Optometry Services, providing expert treatment and advice; assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat patients; formulate appropriate management plans.
* Prescribe and review medications as an independent prescriber, in line with evidence-based practice, local protocols and within the scope of practice and legal framework.
* Order and interpret diagnostic investigations (e.g., blood tests, ocular swabs, imaging) and use findings to initiate treatment.
* Develop virtual clinics within the advanced sub-specialty role; expand advanced clinical skills to meet service needs.
* Support consultants on the day of surgery by conducting slit lamp examinations and maintaining up-to-date patient history.
* Contribute to teaching, audit and clinical governance within the Ophthalmology service; work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Participate in multidisciplinary Paediatric clinics, assessing both new and follow-up patients under direction of the lead Consultant; support irreversible decisions within professional scope.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Paediatric experience is required.
* Autonomous practitioner with the ability to work independently and within a team.
* Registered Independent Non-Medical Prescriber (or eligible) with ability to prescribe medicines for patients, compliant with GEH policy and procedures and HCPC guidance for non-medical prescribers.
* Ability to order and interpret pathological, microbial and imaging investigations; capable of forming management plans based on findings.
* Willingness to develop and deliver virtual clinics and participate in ongoing professional development.
