Eligibility
Applicants who are still in training, or who already hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and want to gain more experience in critical care follow‑up before taking up a consultant post, are welcome to apply.
Responsibilities
We seek a Trust Doctor (ST4+) in Critical Care Medicine with an interest in providing follow‑up care for patients after critical illness. This position is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing a career in intensive care medicine.
This fellowship aims to provide the successful applicant with training and experience in delivering follow‑up care to patients after critical illness.
St Bartholomew’s Hospital has an established critical care follow‑up service led by Dr Segun Olusanya. The follow‑up team comprises consultants, senior critical care nurses, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, other allied health professionals/therapy staff, and administrator support.
The follow‑up service has a weekly clinic that offers face‑to‑face, video, and telephone consultations. Approximately 200‑300 consultations are held annually, and the hospital hosts facilitated peer‑support sessions for patients and families.
The successful applicant will be required to contribute to the ongoing development of the follow‑up service to meet the needs of the local population, which are continually changing in response to evolving clinical demands and emerging evidence, research, and guidelines.
The post holder will continue a clinical commitment to the general critical care rota, approximately 1 in 9 nights, weekends, long days, and shifts on the cardiothoracic surgical unit. The remaining time will be spent between daily work in the general ICU, cardiothoracic ICUs, and work within the critical care follow‑up service.
