The overriding purpose of this role is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement and by working closely with the broader Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).
The post is based on the trauma & orthopaedic wards and is a fixed term appointment for 12 months. The role does not include any on-call commitment.
We offer excellent educational opportunities, including weekly medical Grand Rounds, weekly Geriatric Department educational meetings, audit and QIP projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide a comprehensive medical review of all non-elective admissions to trauma and orthopaedics for patients aged 60 and above, including fracture and fall cases and those with medical comorbidities. Focus on peri-operative medical optimisation, falls review, bone health, and management of medical conditions as needed.
2. Work within the MDT and support orthopaedic teams to provide holistic, patient‑centred care.
3. Attend all daily trauma meetings and assist with the training and organisation of the resident doctors assigned to the orthogeriatrics team.
4. Perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
5. Deputise for absent colleagues from time to time.
