Medical Laboratory Assistant - Microbiology

An opportunity has arisen for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Microbiology department at University Hospitals Dorset.
The Microbiology laboratory is well-equipped, fully computerised, holds UKAS accreditation, and is approved for training. We currently offer diagnostic microbiology services to The Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Poole Hospital, and general practices. The laboratory handles over 250,000 specimens annually.
The successful candidate will be part of the microbiology team, providing diagnostic medical microbiology services that contribute to patient care and infection control within the hospital and community. This role involves supporting Biomedical Scientists and other staff. It is varied and requires an adaptable and flexible working ethic. All training will be provided, and the candidate will backfill for staff leave across sections.
This is an exciting time to join the Dorset pathology team as we reconfigure services across the county.
Working hours are 30 hours per week, including participation in a weekend rota.

Main duties of the job
After training, MLAs will perform various laboratory procedures, including processing diagnostic specimens. Precision, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential. Medical Laboratory Assistants will provide a helpful and professional service to patients and staff within the NHS.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A disclosure submission will be made to check for any criminal convictions.
