Registered Mental Health Nurse

This post is only open to candidates who already have their NMC registration and have completed the preceptorship programme. Newly qualified applicants or those due to qualify will be recruited via a separate process.
Main duties of the job
As a Staff Nurse on Danby Ward, you will be involved in a large multi-disciplinary team striving towards excellent patient care. You will participate in formulation and discharge planning for patients, supported by our dynamic team.
Each inpatient ward is equipped with activity and therapeutic spaces to enable timely recovery and safe discharge back into the community with appropriate support packages.
About us
Cross Lane is a purpose-built mental health hospital offering services including 46 inpatient bedrooms with en-suite facilities for working-age adults and older persons. Esk (female ward) and Danby (male ward) are both 13-bedded wards.
The hospital features vocational and therapeutic areas in a friendly, caring environment. It provides inpatient care on four wards, including those for working-age adults and older adults.
Job responsibilities
We support your development through regular supervision, training, and encouragement within this evolving team, focusing on Patient-Centred Care, support for carers, and evidence-based practice. Newly qualified nurses will receive a preceptorship package.
The successful applicant will work shifts covering 24/7 days and nights, including public holidays.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (RNMH or RNLD)
* Recognised practice assessor/mentor or working towards this within an agreed timeframe
* Trained Clinical Supervisor (within 6 months of probation)
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Experience
* Working with individuals with mental health issues
* Experience in a person-centred therapeutic environment
* Experience in an inpatient setting
* Collaborative work with service users and their families/carers
* Working within a multidisciplinary team
* Partnership work with other agencies
Knowledge
* Evidence-based knowledge of best practices in mental health care
* Clinical Risk Assessment and Management
* Clinical Governance principles
* Research and development methods
* Psychological models of care and treatment awareness
Skills
* Effective communication of complex and sensitive information
* Time management and prioritisation
* Teamwork skills
* Use of approved physical intervention techniques (within agreed timescales)
* Competency in ECG and venepuncture
