We are seeking an Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) to join our team.

Job Purpose: Responsible for providing ambulance care, including assessment, treatment, and patient movement in non-emergency situations. Candidates must have completed ACA foundation training, including first aid and manual handling. The role involves working with diverse patient groups in challenging settings and supporting other ambulance crews or operations as needed.

Reports To: Contract Manager

Other Relationships: Management team, Control team, Learning and Development, Fleet, HR, Payroll

External Relationships: Patients, clients, service users, the general public, GPs, doctors, nurses, other health professionals, and social care services.

About The Role


Main Duties:


Clinical

* Ensure vehicle and personal readiness for patient journeys.
* Maintain communication with the Control team regarding availability and movements.
* Conduct safe patient transport with care and compassion, assisting clinicians and applying appropriate care procedures.
* Keep accurate records of patient movements, respecting patient dignity and confidentiality.
* Communicate medical information effectively to clinicians, patients, and relatives.
* Liaise with healthcare professionals and communicate relevant information internally and externally.


Vehicles

* Drive relevant vehicle types lawfully and with sensitivity.
* Check vehicles and equipment before use, ensuring readiness and functionality.
* Perform vehicle inspections post-duty, reporting defects and maintaining cleanliness.


Administration

* Complete reports and notifications per company policies.
* Maintain records of passengers, journeys, refueling, and duty hours.
* Report incidents, accidents, and equipment issues accurately.


Resourcing

* Be available for shifts as scheduled.
* Respond to requests to change working hours or locations to ensure optimal coverage.


Training, Education, and Development

* Attend mandatory education and development courses.
* Support professional development to maintain clinical competence.
* Identify and pursue personal and professional growth opportunities.
* Maintain a Personal Development Plan and participate in reviews and supervision.
* Participate in CPD initiatives to enhance clinical effectiveness.


Security

* Ensure the security of property, facilities, and patient valuables.


Professional Standards

* Maintain high standards of personal conduct and appearance.
* Contribute to the cleanliness and professionalism of vehicles and workplaces.


Supervisory Duties

* Monitor actions of staff or third parties, ensuring compliance with policies.
* Manage incidents until further resources arrive.


Major Incidents

* Respond to major incidents as per procedures, including call-outs.


Company Equipment

* Operate and test equipment according to procedures and manufacturer instructions.


Confidentiality

* Maintain confidentiality of personal and medical information, complying with data protection laws.


Risk Management

* Contribute to risk management, report hazards, and follow safety policies.
