Whipps Cross Hospital is looking to recruit a Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 who will work at the Acute Assessment Unit, Older Persons Assessment Unit and Same Day Emergency Care at Whipps Cross Hospital. This post is open to individuals who are experienced Healthcare Support Workers in the NHS or elsewhere. Support will be offered to individuals to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies. We are looking for compassionate and motivated individuals who are passionate about delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care in a hospital setting. The role involves undertaking a range of delegated clinical tasks, such as: Patient observations (e.g., monitoring vital signs); Assisting with personal care and mobility; Supporting patients' nutritional and hydration needs; Undertaking limited range of delegated duties (e.g. taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening); Simple wound dressing. Strong team‑working and communication skills are essential to ensure the comfort, wellbeing, and safety of our patients. The postholder will work within the Acute Assessment Unit, Older Persons Assessment Unit and Same Day Emergency Care. Barts Health has a diverse and busy service that may require staff to be flexible in their working.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work within a challenging clinical environment and may undertake shift work which may include nights and weekends.

The post holder will be an integral part of the nursing team actively taking part in meeting the needs of patients and of the service in accordance with agreed standards under direct supervision of the registered nurse. The post holder will continue to develop essential competencies through training and practice to ensure safety and quality are the priority. This post attracts individuals who are new to care. You will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within 6 months upon successful completion of all required competencies; until then, you will be placed at a Band 2 salary.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Completion of Care Certificate or equivalent.
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills (English and Math's GCSEs or equivalent.)
* Evidence of ongoing personal development.
* Level 2 support worker Apprenticeship


Experience

* Demonstrable experience of working in a clinical healthcare setting
* Experience of dealing with the public.


Skills

* Evidence of providing high quality care.
* To be aware of incident reporting systems and escalation processes.
* Evidence of effective interpersonal skills.
* Evidence of good organizational skills.
* Self‑motivated to work under minimal direct supervision
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Good communication skills, written and verbal.
* Basic keyboard/ computer skills (e.g. ability to enter patient data onto computer records).
* Contributes to updating patient records
* To always protect and maintain patient confidentiality and follow information governance policies and procedures
* Prepared to undertake further training to develop the necessary competencies and skills.

Knowledge

* Awareness of health and safety at work. e.g: manual handling skills, infection control measures.
* Ability to collect and exchange factual information and data to the multidisciplinary team and ensure data accuracy.
