Following its opening in 2019, the Peninsula Heart Clinic is an independently operated cardiology centre in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Treatment at the Peninsula Heart Clinic is delivered through a new, state-of-the-art cardiac cath lab, 5-bed recovery, 5-chair radial lounge, 3 individual ensuite bedrooms and extensive outpatient clinic facilities.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of the Cardiac Care team across all aspects of cardiac nursing care including ward, POA and assisting medical staff in the Cath Lab with diagnostic and interventional procedures, angiogram, PCI, pacing and EPS. In this theatre style environment the nurse/practitioner will have both scrub and circulating duties. There is a requirement to wear lead PPE during any procedures in the Cath Lab.
You will be required to promote and maintain a caring and highly professional standard of nursing, meeting the needs of the patients pre and post cath lab procedures. You will act as a professional role model.
The successful candidate will be an RGN (ideally with experience in a cardiology setting), will be ILS trained and will have an awareness of how to deal with cardiac emergencies and post cath‑lab‑procedure complications.

Job responsibilities
To provide nursing care across all areas of the Cardiac Care Unit, including Cath Lab and Day/Night Ward.
* Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates programmes of care.
* Records vital signs and reports any deterioration of clinical condition to senior nurse.
* Be able to recognise life threatening arrhythmias and summon help.
* Be able to perform and interpret ECGs.
* Able to perform venepuncture and cannulation.
* ILI trained.
* Scrub for patients undergoing cardiac catheterisation, pacemaker implantation and PCI.
* Teach and supervise junior staff nurses and unqualified staff.
* Be able to help prepare & escort patients under supervision if needed (e.g. during transfer to NHS hospital for urgent/ongoing/emergency care).
* Prepare the lab for clinical procedures.
* Maintains absolute confidentiality in respect of all medical and nursing records and also interpersonal issues with colleagues.
* Interpret the significance of the patient’s clinical observations and records, making decisions and planning in areas affecting patient care; report promptly to medical or appropriate staff any matters, which fall outside his/her responsibility.
* Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Moving and Handling policy.
* Maintain the privacy and dignity of patients and staff at all times.
* Todeliver a high‑quality cardiology service to our patients at all times.
