Fabrication Foreman & Progress Chaser
Reports To: Operations / Production Manager
Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Fabrication Supervisor & Progress Chaser to lead day-to-day workshop operations while ensuring projects are delivered on time, to specification, and to the highest quality standards.
This is a working leadership role — someone who can organise labour and workflow efficiently, solve problems quickly, and maintain full visibility of production progress from start to finish.
The successful candidate will take ownership of fabrication scheduling, workflow coordination, labour allocation, production tracking, documentation control, and drawing coordination — acting as the key link between the workshop floor, management, and the design/engineering team.
Key Responsibilities Workshop Leadership
* Supervise and coordinate fabrication staff on a daily basis
* Allocate labour efficiently across active jobs
* Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with company procedures
* Maintain high standards of workmanship and productivity
* Provide technical guidance and support to fabricators
* Promote discipline, teamwork, and accountability within the workshop
Production Planning & Progress Chasing
* Monitor job progress against production schedules
* Identify delays, bottlenecks, or material shortages early
* Liaise with purchasing to ensure materials and components are available when required
* Provide clear and accurate progress updates to management
* Prioritise urgent or time-sensitive projects
* Coordinate closely with design/engineering to resolve drawing discrepancies, technical queries, or specification issues promptly to avoid disruption to production
Quality, Documentation & Control
* Ensure work is completed to drawing specifications and quality standards
* Conduct regular inspections of work in progress
* Ensure fabrication documentation and production records are maintained accurately and kept up to date
* Maintain drawing revisions and ensure the workshop is always working from the latest approved information
* Uphold health & safety standards across the workshop
Efficiency & Improvement
* Drive continuous improvement in workshop processes
* Reduce waste, rework, and downtime
* Assist in planning workflow to maximise output
* Support training and development of workshop staff
Required Experience & Skills
* Proven experience in fabrication (steelwork / structural / sheet metal / mechanical — adjust as needed)
* Previous supervisory or foreman experience
* Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings
* Solid understanding of workshop processes and production sequencing
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Confident communicator across all levels of the business
* Problem-solving mindset with a practical approach
* Knowledge of health & safety regulations
