Overview
The post holder will provide support to the scientific and medical staff of the department. The role involves laboratory-based work, sample handling and clerical tasks, with rotation through routine areas of Cellular Pathology.
Responsibilities
* Undertake laboratory-based work including the analysis of samples using various technologies. This may be located in any of the department’s sections.
* Perform sample reception duties including the receipt, barcode labelling and preparation of samples for analysis.
* Perform clerical tasks including data input of patient demographics and test request information.
* Perform general housekeeping duties including maintaining stock levels, general cleaning and waste disposal.
* Work in the Histopathology laboratories on both QMC and City Hospital NUH Campuses; the role involves rotation within all routine areas of Cellular Pathology (Embedding, Microtomy, Dissection scribe, Specimen Reception and Immunohistochemistry).
Qualifications and Skills
* Previous knowledge of Embedding, Microtomy, Dissection, scribe, Specimen Reception and Immunohistochemistry is advantageous.
* Keyboard skills are required; ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity is essential.
* Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively with others is paramount.
* There is a requirement for a degree of manual handling.

Working hours are Monday to Friday (including Bank Holidays) 7.00 a.m. to 6.45 p.m. and Saturday 08:00 to 16:15. The post holder will be expected to work 5 days a week, covering a Monday to Saturday service on a rotational basis. The department provides a rota 3 months in advance to support work/life balance. You will be required to work in the Histopathology laboratories on both QMC and City Hospital NUH Campuses. The role involves rotation within all routine areas of Cellular Pathology; prior knowledge is advantageous. The duties may be varied to respond to changing circumstances and the job description is a guide, not a contract.
