An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Rheumatology Service. The post is based across the City and Sandwell Health Campus sites.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated senior nurse with excellent clinical skills and strong leadership capability. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical practice while also managing a small team of Specialist Nurses, supporting their development and ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred service.
The post holder will be responsible for the management of patients with complex rheumatological conditions, delivering evidence-based care aligned with current best practice. They will work collaboratively within a large multidisciplinary team and maintain a visible, accessible presence for patients, carers, and colleagues.
This role requires the ability to lead and run independent nurse-led clinics, drawing on advanced clinical decision-making, comprehensive health assessment skills, and non-medical prescribing. The successful candidate will review new and follow-up patients, demonstrate extensive knowledge of rheumatology medications and biologic therapies, determine treatment pathways in line with NICE and BSR guidance, and oversee the biologics service and homecare prescribing processes.
Main duties of the job
As the Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide care for patients with complex, multi-system health needs and offer support to these patients from diagnosis to enable them to self-manage their long-term conditions. You will provide assessment and treatment, health education and support to patients to manage their conditions in clinic, via a telephone advice line and virtually using tele-medicine. Within this role, you will be required to demonstrate that you are reliable and flexible.
The post holder will provide highly specialised advice, education, training, and support for patients and be responsible for the development of care pathways and nurse led initiatives to enhance services delivered.

Experience
* Evidence of previous resource management experience
* In-depth knowledge of DMARD and Biologic Therapies
* Experience and knowledge of Rheumatology.
* Experience of audit and research initiatives
* Able to undertake nurse-led clinics independently.
* Band 6 experience in Rheumatology
Qualifications
* RN (Adult)
* Current NMC registration.
* Degree level qualification in health-related subject
* Teaching and Assessing qualification
* Independent Prescribing course (V300) or equivalent
* Teaching qualification
* European Computer Driving Licence
* Post graduate qualification relevant to Speciality or willing to work towards
