Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity in Hywel Dda University Health Board in the county of Pembrokeshire for a Rotational Specialist Physiotherapist.

There is the option for a static position with our Community team should that be preferred - please contact for more information.

Whilst the rotation is always under review, the current rotation is: Medical/Respiratory, Orthopaedics, Stroke ward, Community settings including rehabilitation ward, Intermediate Care Team.


Main Duties of the Job

We are looking for an individual with great interpersonal skills to network with acute and community colleagues to co‑ordinate a responsive, seamless service across pathways and sectors.

The successful post holder will have organisational ability and a commitment to service development.

They will develop the evidence base for evaluation through audit, clinical effectiveness and research activity.

As appropriate, there will be an expectation to deputise for senior management.

As a versatile postgraduate, they will need to have a strong clinical grounding in older people rehabilitation, expertise in falls and frailty syndrome, neurological conditions, cardio‑respiratory conditions and MSK problems.

The post holder will work autonomously as a highly skilled practitioner managing a clinical caseload of patients with diverse and complex health and social care needs.

They will work alongside members of the MDT in a managerial and clinical role.

They will provide clinical leadership, specialist expertise and supervision to junior physiotherapists, physiotherapy support workers, students and generic rehabilitation assistants.

There will be a strong educational element to the role as a clinical expert.


About Us

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties.

* 48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
* Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
* Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Job Responsibilities

As a physiotherapy service, we recognise that our staff are our strongest asset and investment into the individual as a person as much as their professional development is important. We actively promote post‑graduate study with shared funding opportunities.

The post holder will be required to participate in the provision of a flexible 7‑day service and participation on the respiratory on‑call rota with adequate training as required. This will be on a rota basis.

The ability to travel is required and although based in Pembrokeshire, there may be times where it will be necessary to travel.

Person Specification


Qualifications & Knowledge (Essential)

* Professional registration as recognised by HCPC.
* CPD evidence.
* IT skills.
* Postgraduate evidence of specialist education.


Qualifications & Knowledge (Desirable)

* Post‑graduate qualification up to post‑grad diploma level in relevant specialty.
* Clinical Education Training Course.
* Member of C.S.P.
* Active participation of specialist interest groups.


Experience (Essential)

* Post‑graduate experience in relevant clinical specialty.
* Completion of junior competency framework.
* Practical experience to a level that would enable participation on the respiratory on‑call rota.
* Therapeutic handling and risk assessments.
* Managing a diverse caseload using a clinical reasoning process.
* Inter‑professional and team working.
* Evidence of supporting service compliance with clinical governance requirements.
* Experience of staff supervision.
* Direct involvement with carers and families.


Experience (Desirable)

* Evidence of student supervision.
* Negotiation of MDT working practices.
* Experience of service development.
* Experience of NHS working.


Other (Essential)

* Evidence of teaching/In‑Service Training.
* Flexible approach to meet the needs of the service.
* Prepared to participate in on call and extended service.
* Ability to travel between sites and in community in a timely manner.


Language Requirements (Desirable)

* Welsh Speaker (Level 1).
