The role
As a Driver, you’ll play a vital role supporting RAF operations and ensuring personnel, equipment and vehicles are exactly where they need to be. Working as part of a small but highly effective Transport Services team, you’ll operate a wide range of vehicles — from cars and minibuses to coaches and LGVs — while contributing to the smooth, safe running of daily activity on site. It’s a role where you’ll build specialist skills, develop professionally, and take pride in work that directly supports national defence.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Drive a range of Passenger Carrying Vehicles and Large Goods Vehicles safely and professionally
2. Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy, maintained and clean before and after use
3. Complete all required documentation accurately, including daily checks and tachograph requirements
4. Report all vehicle defects promptly and in line with process
5. Carry out a wide range of transport tasks, including driving senior stakeholders.
This is a full‑time, onsite position at RAF Halton, working an average of 39 hours per week. Shift patterns for this role are:
6. Earlies: 06:00–13:30 (Mon–Fri)
7. Lates: 13:00–20:30 (Mon–Fri)
8. Days:
9. 08:00–17:00 (Mon–Thurs), 08:00–16:00 (Fri)
10. 07:30–16:30 (Mon–Thurs), 07:30–15:30 (Fri)
11. Weekend Duty: One in every 8 weeks (06:30–18:30), with weekday time off provided.
Applicants must live within 1 hour of RAF Halton.
Essential experience of the Driver:
12. Experience operating similar vehicle types
13. Ability to demonstrate diplomacy and professionalism in sensitive situations
14. Familiarity with transport documentation, including tachograph use.
Qualifications for the Driver:
15. Valid UK Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) licence (Category D)
16. Valid UK Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) licence (Category C)
17. Valid Digital Tachograph Card.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
