The Senior Director of Technology will play a crucial role in driving innovation and business growth by identifying, developing, and commercializing cutting-edge technologies in the fields of power systems, sensors, and signature management. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of technology, business, and market dynamics. The company strategy is to drive growth focused primarily in the UK and US defence markets with aftermarket growth in the RoW. The successful candidate will be responsible for translating technical advancements into tangible business value, leading high-performance teams, and fostering strong industry partnerships. A key focus for the Senior Director of Technology will be to lead the company's transformation from an "engineer-to-order" to a "configure-to-order" business model. By leveraging innovative technologies and adopting a "reduce, reuse, recycle" philosophy. The Director will drive the development of flexible, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions that meet diverse customer needs. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Develop and implement a long-term technology strategy aligned with the company's business objectives. Identify emerging technologies and assess their potential to create new products, services, or markets. Lead the company's transformation from an "engineer-to-order" to a "configure-to-order" business model. Foster a culture of innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement. IRAD Program Management Lead and manage IRAD programs from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and technical requirements across all the business sites (US and UK). Oversee the development of technical proposals, project plans, and resource allocation. Monitor project progress and take corrective action as needed. Prioritize IRAD projects based on strategic alignment, potential return on investment, and risk assessment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of IRAD programs. Business Case Development Develop compelling business cases for new technology initiatives, including detailed financial analysis, risk assessment, and return on investment (ROI) calculations. Present business cases to senior leadership, securing funding and support for strategic projects Market Analysis and Strategy Conduct in-depth market analysis to identify target markets and customer segments. Develop effective go-to-market strategies, including pricing, distribution, and marketing plans. Monitor market trends and adjust strategies as needed to maintain a competitive advantage. Team Development and Knowledge Transfer Foster a high-performing team culture that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. Coach and mentor team members to develop their skills and advance their careers. Act as an independent design reviewer to ensure technical excellence and adherence to engineering standards. Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration across the organization. Implement effective knowledge management practices to capture and preserve expertise. Industry Partnerships Build strong relationships with industry partners, including suppliers, customers, and academic institutions. Collaborate on joint research projects and technology development initiatives. Leverage partnerships to accelerate innovation and reduce time-to-market. Intellectual Property Protect the company's intellectual property through patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. Monitor the intellectual property landscape and identify opportunities for licensing and commercialization. Supervisory Responsibilities This role may have associated direct line reports that are technology focussed. Qualifications And Experience This role requires a highly skilled and experienced individual who can lead technical teams, drive innovation, and deliver on business objectives. Advanced degree in engineering, physics, or a related field. Extensive experience in technology development and product innovation. Deep understanding of power systems, sensors, and signature management technologies. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to think strategically and make sound decisions. Strong financial acumen and business judgment. Experience in leading and managing IRAD programs. Knowledge of engineering design principles and methodologies. Proficiency in relevant software tools and simulation techniques. Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
