Brompton is seeking an outstanding experienced mechanical engineer to join our structural engineering team.
Reporting to the Lead Structural Engineer, the successful candidate will use their expertise in engineering science and simulation tools to deliver outstanding engineering outcomes.
You will be responsible both for the development of innovative and highly optimised structural components and for supporting development teams across the business on their parts and projects.
You will be a driver of engineering excellence by developing internal processes, maintaining technical documentation, including analysis reports, design guidelines, and best practices specific to bicycle structural analysis, and by providing technical guidance to junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Structural Engineer you will be responsible for supporting projects through the full development cycle and for developing the teams competence. This could include: All aspects of FE modelling meshing, model setup, debugging, results interpretation and FE Analysis of components and components under development
Design exploration to determine guidance for the Design Engineering team
Correlation activities to ensure agreement between the FEA and physical test results
Developing material models to capture non-linear and fatigue behaviour
Providing guidance to the design teams

An individual who can effectively communicate technical information to customers at all levels of the business
Skills: Excellent engineering science fundamentals; stress-strain, fatigue-life estimation.
Good understanding of material characteristics of metallics, composites and engineering plastics
Experience in the use of FEA; being able to perform linear and non-linear structural analysis. This includes model creation, running/debugging and result interpretation.
Experience in correlating FEA results with lab tests data
The ability to interpret FE results and produce concise, high-quality technical reports
Familiarity with the Altair HyperWorks tools (HyperMesh, HyperView, OptiStruct, RADIOSS);
The ability to perform hand-calculations to support component sizing and backup FE results
Experience of developing around and optimising for manufacturing techniques:
Machining
Casting
Forging
Welding and brazing
Surface treatment
Heat treatment
Bolted joints
Adhesive joints
Advantageous Skills: Experience in CAD, preferably Solidworks
Setup and interpretation of topology optimisation studies in Optistruct
Creating accurate load cases from instrumented products: gathering, processing, and using primary load data
Strong understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations for bicycle design and performance, such as ISO 4210, EN 14766, or equivalent
An understanding of the simulation of manufacturing/forming processes
