We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated and proactive Pharmacy Technician to join the senior management team at the Beatson. About The Role
Shift pattern: 37 hours per week, worked over 5/7 days. Normal hours are Monday to Friday 08:45-17:00 (45 minute lunch 13:00-13:45). Please be advised that, effective 1 April 2026, the full‑time working hours for all Agenda for Change posts will be reduced to 36 hours.
Responsibilities
* You will provide line management for pharmacy technical staff and support their professional development.
* Manage day‑to‑day operations of the aseptic unit, overseeing staff workload, rotas and ensuring service continuity.
* Monitor the preparation of chemotherapy, dose banding, intrathecal medicines and clinical trials. Plan and coordinate service delivery and development.
* Attendance management in line with local policies.
* Participate in service improvement initiatives and workforce planning.
Quality & Standards
* Set and monitor standards for aseptic preparation (e.g. chemotherapy, intrathecal medicines, clinical trials).
Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and NHS protocols.
* Undertake aseptic accuracy checks and act as a mentor for trainee accuracy checking pharmacy technicians.
Participate in audits, risk assessments, and service improvement projects.
Training & Development
* Contribute to education and training frameworks for technical staff.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Support training of Pre‑Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Support Workers.
* Deliver training, competency assessments and progress reviews for technical staff.
Essential qualifications
* Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* An accredited pharmacy accuracy checking qualification (dispensary or aseptic).
* Significant post‑qualification experience and broad understanding of a wide range of pharmacy technical practice and staff management.
* Management qualification or demonstrable experience of managing staff and/or service delivery; ability to lead and motivate a team and proficient IT skills.
Desirable qualifications
* An SQA Work Based Assessor qualification or working towards it.
* Previous experience of working in or managing an aseptic unit.
