This is a FIXED TERM contract with the position commencing in December 2025. The post is offered as full-time with no on-call, under the co-supervision of Mr Girish Vajramani.
Main duties of the job
This role is offered for 12 months. Our department is the only tertiary centre in the region covering acute and elective services with a catchment area of 3 million across south and southwest England. You will be covering the neurosurgery services as well as Neurosciences wards and will be exposed to all aspects of neurosurgery. There will be ample educational opportunities including theatre attendance, weekly teaching, monthly morbidity and mortality meetings as well as clinics and MDTs; candidates will gain broad experience in functional neurosurgery.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The post is offered as full-time with no on-call under the co-supervision of Mr Girish Vajramani.
You will gain experience in all aspects of surgery but will support primarily with functional surgery including Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) devices and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).
During this year you will often be working at consultant level, running lists and clinics independently as well as under supervision, helping a transition from trainee to fully independent consultant practice.
Study leave will be granted to attend courses pertinent to Functional Neurosurgery; local courses are available for leadership, teaching and interview skills. Audit and research activities in the department will be encouraged.
Qualifications, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Appropriate knowledge base and sound clinical judgement
* GCP training
* FRCS(Neurosurgery) or equivalent/Neurosurgery training
* Functional Neurosurgery experience
* Multi-disciplinary working
* Publishing experience in neurosurgery
Desirable criteria
* Research studies/trials experience
* CCT – on GMC specialist register in neurosurgery
Aptitudes and skills
* Ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
* Understanding of equality and diversity in patients, visitors and staff
* Clear verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues
