The Environment Agency is seeking an experienced investigator to join the National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. This role sits within the National Environmental Crime Unit, part of the National Regulation and Monitoring Team. The team is a nationally dispersed group of Investigators focused on bringing the most serious environmental offenders to justice.
Overview
The successful candidate will work alongside Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to lead investigations into serious and complex environmental crimes. Responsibilities include coordinating and overseeing all aspects of investigations, from identifying lines of enquiry, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, through to casefile preparation and prosecuting outcomes where applicable.
Responsibilities
* Lead and drive complex environmental crime investigations, coordinating lines of enquiry and managing investigative teams.
* Review intelligence, identify actions, allocate resources, and coordinate evidence gathering and interviews.
* Prepare case files and support prosecution where appropriate.
* Collaborate with Partnership Organisations and other agencies, contributing to multi-agency investigations.
* Contribute to development of the investigation team and processes within the unit.
Experience and Skills
* High level of attention to detail, hard-working and self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
* In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and basic IT competency (Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams).
* Knowledge of environmental crime, leading serious criminal investigations, and workings of a Major Incident Room is desirable.
* Proven ability to lead, drive, and develop investigation teams; proactive problem-solving and initiative.
* Successful completion of both SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes within a 6-month probation; a full driving licence is required.
Role Details
* Working pattern: hybrid (home and Environment Agency Office) with frequent travel for meetings and operational duties.
* Responding to incidents is a central part of the role; availability for incident response and business continuity support may be required, with potential additional payment and available training and workplace adjustments.
