Livewell Southwests Specialist Tier 3 Weight ManagementService are seeking an experienced and motivated General Practitionerwith Extended Role (GPwER) to join our multidisciplinary team.

This is a part-time role for four hours per week to be worked flexibly.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to deliver specialist, holistic care to adults living with complex obesity and related long-term conditions. You will play a key part in our integrated model, working closely with colleagues across dietetics, psychology, nursing, health improvement, and local primary care networks across Plymouth and Devon.


Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide specialist medical assessments for patients.

Lead on the safe initiation, monitoring, and review of weight-managementpharmacotherapies, including GLP1 therapies where clinically appropriate.

Participate in regular multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.

Contribute to the creation of individualised care plans, supporting behaviour change and clinical risk management.

Support patients navigating pre and postoperative pathways for Tier 4 bariatric surgery in line with national guidance.

Offer clinical expertise to colleagues across Livewell Southwest and local primary care.

Contribute to service development, audit, quality improvement, and pathway design.

Ensure high quality clinical documentation and uphold governance, safeguarding, and patient-centred care standards.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Eligibility for full registration with GMC with a licence to practice.
* MBBS or equivalent.
* Minimum of three years in general practice and, or, adult medicine training.
* Membership of, or affiliation to, the Royal College of GPs or equivalent.
* Experience of working with patients with Eating Disorders.
* Experience of acute assessment of Eating Disorders in hospital setting.


Experience

* Excellent clinical skills in history taking and physical assessment of patients.
* Ability to manage crises and act independently.
* Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies.
* Knowledge of immediate and long term physical health risks secondary to eating disorders.
* Clinical experience in working in, or with, primary care.
* Ability to apply psychological models to practical situations.
* Knowledge of clinical risk management.


Research, Communication, Interpersonal Skills, Management & Practical Requirements

* Interest in maintaining up to date clinical knowledge base.
* Commitment to involvement in on‑site programme of clinical governance.
* Ability to communicate with patients and staff, both orally and in writing, to a high standard.
* Computer and IT skills.
* Excellent team working skills.
* Caring attitude to patient and relatives.
* Offer advice regarding team development.
* Experience in audit.
* Sensitivity to the importance of considering user’s view in individual treatment plans and also service development.
* Ability to access transport to undertake duties as appropriate.
* Ability to deal with stressful situations and emergency care.
* Enthusiasm to contribute to research on site.
* Publications in peer reviewed journals.
* Knowledge of evidence based practice, clinical audit and involvement of users and carers in service service provision.
* Ability to maintain and build relationships across multiple physical and organisational boundaries.
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels.
* Ability to motivate a multi-disciplinary team.
* Excellent organisation and time management skills.
* Evidence of service improvement and design specific to community settings.
* Practical experience of Personalised Care Framework (PCF).
