Seeking an AP Tutor in Sunderland – Make a Real Difference
Are you an experienced tutor or educator passionate about supporting young people outside of mainstream education? We’re looking for a committed and patient AP Tutor to provide 1:1 tuition for students in Sunderland who require alternative provision.
About the Role:
As an AP Tutor, you will deliver personalised 1:1 support to students who are currently out of mainstream education. These learners may face challenges such as SEMH needs, anxiety, exclusion, or other barriers. Your mission will be to help re-engage them with learning and support their academic and personal development.
Tuition may take place in the student’s home, at a local community venue, or online.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver personalised lessons in core subjects (English, Maths, Science)
* Build trust and positive relationships to create a safe learning environment
* Use creative, flexible approaches to encourage engagement and progress
* Collaborate with carers, schools, and other professionals where needed
* Track attendance and provide regular updates on progress
What We’re Looking For:
* Experience teaching or tutoring (QTS/QTLS preferred, but not essential)
* Background in supporting disengaged or vulnerable young people
* Strong communication and behaviour management skills
* A calm, adaptable, and empathetic approach
* Enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
