Job Title: Assistant Management Accountant

Salary: £32,000-£35,000
Hours: 40 (with provision for 30 minutes for lunch each day)

Empower Family Group is a leading provider of children’s social care services in the South West of England. We are growing fast and currently looking for a motivated Assistant Management Accountant to join our finance team in Taunton. What you’ll do:
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and year end management accounts for eight group entities.
Data analysis and the preparation of detailed accrued/deferred income and prepayments/accruals workings.
Preparing and posting journal entries in Xero.
Reconciling balance sheet accounts.
Identifying new fixed assets and preparing/maintaining the group’s fixed asset registers.
Assist with the preparation of financial reports and presentations.
Ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.
Assist with payroll processing activities.
Assist in maintaining financial records and working papers, including the ongoing review of accounting records for accuracy/completeness.
Monitor budgets and track variances across the business.
Help drive financial analysis to inform key business decisions.
Contribute to ad hoc finance projects and continuous process improvements.
Any other ad hoc tasks to support the finance team in the performance of its day-to-day operations.
Requirements
What we’re looking for:
Part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or actively studying towards a professional accounting qualification.
Proven experience in a similar accounting role, or alternatively a practice-based role and making a first move into industry.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Experience of preparing management accounts and general bookkeeping.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Xero (preferably), or other similar cloud-based accounting software suites.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy is an absolute must.
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A proactive approach to work and a desire to learn/improve.
A questioning mindset and the ability to challenge material where appropriate.
