About the recipient
Applicants wanted to work with a 8 year old boy with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This young person also uses a wheelchair periodically.
This young man is loving, caring, energetic and adores football. He loves to explore the outdoors and play football in his garden. He can recognise when he needs to rest and will play Switch to occupy himself. This young man loves all animals in particular dogs and gets on well with peers and younger children.
This young man tends to take a long time to trust people but is very inquisitive so will happily ask questions and engage with others. They love to learn and will often remember all kinds of facts about football or animals.
This young person will require some minor personal care and may need support with emotional regulation at time so applicants should be patient and caring and feel comfortable with this.
Hours of work will mainly be after the school day in the afternoons and early evenings two to three days a week and occasional Fridays but during the holidays there is scope for variation.

● Settling and supporting the individual.
● Keeping them safe in the community.
● Helping to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
● Attending/transporting the individual to social activities and the home.
● Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.

The suitable candidate must:
● Be conscientious and committed to providing support as necessary for the child.
● Be patient, caring and understanding.
● Be able to build a positive relationship with the child to both encourage and support them.
● Be flexible to meet the needs of the family.
● Have knowledge of working with or supporting a child with special needs.
