Role Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an Epilepsy Specialist Nurse to join our team. This fixed‑term 12‑month role covers maternity leave and offers specialist training for your next career step. The position will be based in a busy outpatient department and hospital setting, with at least 40% community (home visits, clinics in other hospitals across Lancashire, Cumbria, and Blackpool). Driving is essential.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist clinical advice, support, and education to patients, families and carers.
* Lead nurse‑led clinics, telephone reviews and care coordination.
* Support safe and effective treatment plans, including medication optimisation.
* Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
* Deliver staff training and promote best practice in epilepsy management.
* Act as an advocate for patients living with epilepsy, supporting self‑management and independence.
* Develop evidence‑based guidelines and write protocols/policies in line with NICE guidance.
* Provide written, evidence‑based patient information at appropriate stages of the disease progression and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
* Deliver structured education sessions for patients.
* Ensure planning, delivery and evaluation of care meet patients’ personalised health and wellbeing needs, aligned with the Trust’s values.
* Provide clinical supervision, advice and training for other staff and students, acting as a strong role model.
* Maintain a safe, clean and organised team environment and uphold the Trust’s values and the Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate is a registered nurse with a genuine interest in neurology and long‑term condition management. Excellent communication skills, passion for improving patient experience, and ability to work collaboratively with neurologists, multidisciplinary teams, and community partners are essential.
