We are seeking a proactive and analytically minded Assistant Buyer (Horticulture) to play a key role in delivering our horticultural strategy. Supporting the Head of Horticulture, you will take ownership of data-led decision making, stock performance analysis, supplier management, and promotional coordination to ensure the right plants are available at the right time, with the right quality and value, for our garden centres. This is a strategic role with real accountability, suited to someone who combines commercial acumen with strong data skills and a passion for horticulture. The salary for this role ranges from £30,000 to £35,000 per annum, dependent on experience. This position is based at our Ampfield, Hampshire office, and requires candidates to have the ability to commute to the location daily. Key Responsibilities Buying & Stock Management Monitor and analyse sales, margin, and wastage data to drive plant buying decisions. Liaise with external suppliers and internal nursery production teams to ensure stock availability aligns with the seasonal and strategic plan. Track and review supplier performance, identifying opportunities for improved value, service, or quality. Support forecasting and production planning to ensure appropriate stock levels across centres. Data Analysis & Reporting Interpret complex datasets, translating findings into clear, actionable insights for the Head of Horticulture and other stakeholders. Produce regular reporting on stock performance, trends, and customer demand. Identify risks and opportunities in stockholding, flagging outliers or anomalies for immediate action. Help manage and refine auto-replenishment systems to optimise availability. Promotional & Marketing Support Brief the marketing and design teams on plant promotions, seasonal features, and availability. Support the planning and execution of marketing campaigns from a buying perspective, ensuring alignment with stock and supply capabilities. Administrative & Strategic Support Coordinate key reports, communications, and updates to ensure smooth operation across the horticultural team. Support the implementation of key strategic initiatives through accurate data handling and proactive organisation. Our ideal candidate will have: Proven experience in buying, retail, supply chain, or data-driven role. Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong data analysis capabilities. Excellent communication skills – able to convey insights clearly and confidently. Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Commercial awareness and a solutions-oriented mindset. A keen interest in plants and horticulture. Experience working with inventory or auto-replenishment systems.
