Job overview

Employment Status: 1-year Fixed Term Contract for 25/26 academic year

Full Time/Part Time: Full Time/Part Time

Salary: MPS/UPS

Start Date: ASAP

This role is to provide an outstanding learning experience for students, allowing them to fulfil their potential through the provision of excellent teaching, support and guidance.

The Geography Department has a reputation for high standards in teaching and learning and we pride ourselves on our student-centered approach. The department is committed to working with the students to achieve our school values of Curiosity, Courage and Compassion and also places emphasis on scholarship through wider reading.

We are a dynamic and enthusiastic team who believe in supporting all students to achieve high academic standards. The KS3 Geography curriculum has gone through a large-scale change which represents an amazing opportunity to work on an innovative and cutting-edge curriculum which extends the National Curriculum.

The Geography department operates across both Tonbridge and Sevenoaks campuses. It consists of both full and part-time subject specialist staff and forms an essential part of our Humanities faculty. Teamwork and effective communication are essential skills required for the role and particularly to ensure that operation across both campuses is successful. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and creative individual to drive the department forward and to build on the exemplary results that have been achieved. Geography continues to be the most popular option subject for GCSE. The Geography department encourages student participation in co-curricular activities across all key stages, including field trips abroad, support sessions and welcoming external speakers.

KS3 students receive four hours of geography teaching per fortnight, with this going up to 5 hours in KS4 where students work towards the AQA GCSE. At KS5, students' 10 hours are split equally between human and physical geography specialists, and they follow the Edexcel specification. Their A-Level includes an NEA on either coasts or regeneration. Please see the Curriculum section of our website for more information.

Application Closing Date: Monday 22 September 2025, 9am

Shortlist Interview Date: Friday 26 September

Early applications are advised as the School reserves the right to appoint at any stage during the application process.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post. As this role involves 'regulated activity' with children the successful applicant will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure application. Employment will be conditional upon the College being satisfied with the result of the Enhanced DBS check and the outcome of all other checks.

The School will also carry out a check of the Children's Barred List on the successful applicant. Applicants should be aware that it is unlawful for the School to employ anyone to work with children if they are barred from doing so, and it is a criminal offence for a person to apply to work with children if they are barred from doing so.

This role is also exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask shortlisted applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
